Friday 6 June 2008 will remain in the band's memory for a long time.
We were asked to play at the Colorado Country Music Club's 25th Anniversary Celebrations, held in the smallest of clubs in West Calder, Scotland. This was a first time visit to this area for us and on arrival, seeing the venue, we realised we would have to leave almost all the equipment in the van and set up with the bare minimum. Actually contemplated an acoustic set!
But....
What a great night it turned out to be. Not a 'You are too loud', 'You're not country', 'We don't know any of these songs' or 'Can't dance to that' etc. to be heard, everyone had a terrific time, listening, dancing, clapping and singing along. Large amount of merchandise sold and to top it all, the club donated £100 to my charity CHAS (Childrens Hospice Association Scotland).
This is a very small club and credit due to booking us as the price range was way outwith their budget, however they still went ahead, and we were delighted for them that they had such a great night. Really interesting to hear so many of the audience comment how good it was to hear live music and original material.
As long as there are good people and clubs like this out there, the future for artists like us is positive. Unfortunately, they are, in my limited experience, in the greater minority.
The organiser told us didn't advertise as she was afraid too many people would show up and be refused entry on health and safety grounds and anyway just wanted us for her own members....fair one.
Thank you Janet and the team for what was a memorable show.

Morning Judy
Thanks for the comments, as always much appreciated.
Thanks also due to all the radio presenters, promoters and magazines who keep the dream alive, without you, BritCountry would be dead on its feet!
Well down the road on the new album which I am doing with a new producer and really pleased with the way its going. Hopefully be out at the start of 2009.
Good thoughts to all

Hi everyone, been a while so hope everything is going your way.
The band have been invited to be part of the national 'Homecoming Scotland' celebrations with three 'mainstream' shows promoted by the local authority. These dates and venues are:
November 2009
Fri 27 Clydebank Town Hall, Clydebank
Sat 28 Event Marquee, Moss O'Balloch Park, Balloch
Sun 29 Denny Civic Theatre, Dumbarton
This is a fantastic opportunity to take our music to a wider audience and we also look forward to seeing any of our friends in the area on these dates. All venues are within 15 miles of Glasgow City Centre, so if anyone fancies a wee break to the second city of the Empire, let me know and I'll organise tix.
For updated information please visit: www.brianhughesmusic.com
Good thoughts to all
