It's been a while

Hi guys, not been around for a while. Last July the bakery where I worked closed and we took over the sandwich/catering side of it. We work from home, although I only take the van out 5 days a week we have to work 6. It's long hours and hard work but we're actually making money.

With all the work involved in setting up and starting out in business we had little time for anything else, even country music. We're also knackered most evenings (We'll I'm 60 and Thelma isn't far behind) so we don't get out so often as we used to.

When the bakery closed I lost my caravan storage so, unfortunately, it had to go.

We did manage to get to Britville for the Sunday, absolutely brilliant. The Creekies were better than ever even they didn't have Flat Eric with them.

Two of my favourite bands played the Wild Stallion lately, First Chapter and Tom Williams. I heard several not very complimentary comments about them from other people who've been into Country Music far longer than me but I still think both bands are great.

I'm probably going to get into trouble for the next comment but here goes anyway…

You cannot run a club or festival by sending an agent a cheque and telling him to send you bands! If you do you'll get the bands he can't sell elsewhere. If you haven't seen the band and don't know anyone who has how do you know they're any good? I was at a recent festival and quite frankly I should have stayed home on the Friday. We had an American who couldn't sing, with his backing band starting every single song with the intro to Loving All Night. Two other so called bands that were, to say the least, chronic. At 8pm there were close on 800 people in, by 10.30 there was barely a hundred left and the show didn't finish until after 1.00!

As for people complaining about Tambourines, bet these are the same folk complaining about Line Dancers a while back. I wonder who they'll pick on next? People wearing Cowboy Hats cause they block the view of the stage?

We need the fun people, dancers, tambourine players, westerners, people out to have a bit of fun. After Britville anywhere I go I get pounced on, "Have you got your horse with you?" Yes, I own a line dancing horse.

Going to a Country Line Dance Disco tonight, it's a new venue that apparently grew out of a class. Last Friday in every month in a local W.I. hall, should be fun.

Did I ever tell you about the Norwich Ghostriders Western Club? Well… It used to meet in the Norfolk Dumpling on the Cattle Market. Unfortunately that was demolished to make way for a new B&Q. At that time the club split, half going to Mulbarton and half (The Ghostriders) going to the British Legion. I joined the club 3 months after the move and have been a member for 4 years now. When we joined there were just over 40 members, now there are over 160. At the start there was very little line dancing with a bit of partner dancing, now it's around 1/2 line 1/2 freestyle with the same partner dancers as at the beginning. We meet every Thursday night and the cost, bearing in mind there is a live band (Sometimes a duo or solo) and NO bingo £3.00, it has been £3.00 since before we joined and they have no plans to increase it.

Hope to get to the Breckland CMF but will have to pass on the Sunday session as we have to make the food to sell on Monday.

I'm looking for a good country music/line dance holiday over New Year any suggestions?
Judy

Couldn't agree more especially the comment on agents, oh and nice to see you back here
Eric

Hi Joe, nice to see you at Britville. What's the horse called?
